The Council of the Haida Nation has announced an agreement to acquire the Queen Charlotte Lodge property and equipment at Naden Harbour, marking a significant change in ownership for one of Haida Gwaii's best-known tourism operations.
The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. According to a joint announcement from the Council of the Haida Nation (CHN) and Queen Charlotte Lodge Ltd. (QCL), the sale is expected to close in late 2027. The lodge will continue operating as usual through the 2027 season.
"Néedan Gawée Naden Harbour has always been a significant place for the Haida Nation," said Haida Nation President Gaagwiis Jason Alsop in the announcement.
"The bounty and the beauty of the area is awe inspiring and has provided an important food source for Haida communities for thousands of years and has been enjoyed by all who have had the fortune to visit."
Alsop said the acquisition will allow the Haida Nation to reconnect with Naden Harbour while creating future opportunities based on engagement with Haida citizens.
Queen Charlotte Lodge has operated on Haida Gwaii for more than 30 years and is currently owned by Queen Charlotte Lodge Ltd., led by president Paul Clough.
The lodge has built an international reputation as a luxury sport fishing destination, offering multi-day guided and unguided salmon fishing vacations. Guests typically fly to Masset before travelling by helicopter to the lodge at Naden Harbour. Fishing packages include accommodations, meals, boats and equipment, with guided fishing available as an additional option. Four-night accommodation packages for the 2026 season ranged from about $6,600 to more than $8,000 per person before guided fishing costs were added.
In the joint announcement, Clough said the company had worked with the Haida Nation to reach an agreement that would transition the property to Haida ownership.
"QCL has been a proud member of the Haida Gwaii community for more than 30 years and we will always hold Haida Gwaii and its people close to our hearts," he said.
"We have worked together with CHN in a mutually respectful way to transition the QCL property to the Haida people under our Agreement."
The announcement states that the acquisition includes the Haida Gwaii property and equipment associated with Queen Charlotte Lodge. No details were provided regarding the purchase price, future operations beyond the 2027 season or plans for the facility after the sale is completed.
For now, CHN and QCL say the lodge will remain open and continue normal operations through the 2027 fishing season.
