Property owners in the west end of Daajing Giids could eventually have the option to connect to the municipal sewer system, but the cost of doing so may be significant.
Daajing Giids council is scheduled to consider sending a letter to affected residents at its Sept. 9 meeting as the Village continues exploring an extension of sewer service to properties not currently connected to the municipal system.
The Village is looking at grant funding that could cover the cost of extending municipal sewer infrastructure to individual property lines. Property owners would still be responsible for the work required from the property line to their home or building.
One of the largest potential expenses identified by the Village is a sewage pump, estimated at approximately $25,000. The figure is preliminary, with actual prices still to be determined. Property owners could also face municipal connection, latecomer or hook-up fees, along with pipework and other installation costs.
Council previously voted July 27 to proceed with design work for the West End Sewer Servicing Project, including backflow protection and infrastructure intended to support future connections.
The Sept. 9 letter is meant to gauge how much interest exists among affected property owners before the Village goes further with the expansion.
The possible sewer extension is being considered alongside the Village’s larger wastewater treatment project, which is intended to bring Daajing Giids into compliance with federal wastewater requirements.
